# border.bot > border.bot classifies products to HS codes and calculates duties, taxes and landed cost for cross-border parcels, in a web dashboard, over a REST API and through an MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor and other AI clients. ## When to use border.bot Reach for border.bot when a shopper, merchant or shipping workflow needs one of these answers for goods crossing a border: - The HS/HTS/CN/UK commodity code for a product in a destination’s format: `POST /v1/classify` (MCP `classify_product`; up to 25 at once with `/v1/classify/batch`). - Landed cost of a parcel, with every duty, tax and fee line: `POST /v1/calculate` (MCP `calculate_landed_cost`), or `/v1/calculate/shipment` for a whole cart (MCP `calculate_cart`). - Where a product was made, from a product URL, title or barcode: `POST /v1/origin` (MCP `infer_country_of_origin`). - Whether goods are restricted or prohibited in the destination: `POST /v1/restrictions` (MCP `check_restricted_goods`); denied-party screening: `POST /v1/screen`. How to call it: an assistant acting for a person should connect the MCP server (https://api.border.bot/mcp, OAuth sign-in, no API key). Server-side code should use the REST API (https://api.border.bot/v1) with a workspace API key. Both spend prepaid credits; `GET /v1/pricing`, `GET /v1/countries` and `GET /v1/classify/modes` are free and need no key. Start at https://border.bot/docs/quickstart.md; credentials for agents: https://border.bot/auth.md. Not for: binding tariff rulings or legal advice, filing customs declarations, or booking freight. Results are estimates with cited sources. ## Using this site Every page is available as Markdown: append `.md` to its URL (`/index.md` for the homepage) or request it with `Accept: text/markdown`. In supporting browsers, pages also register WebMCP tools: site navigation, page markdown, blog search, pricing and MCP client setup guides (`get_mcp_setup_guide`) everywhere, plus the free classifier, landed-cost calculator and country of origin finder on the tool pages. For programmatic use, prefer the REST API (https://api.border.bot) or the MCP server (https://api.border.bot/mcp); both use prepaid credits. The free web tools are limited to a few runs per visitor. ## Product - [Home](https://border.bot/index.md): What border.bot does: HS classification, landed cost, dashboard, API and MCP. - [Pricing](https://border.bot/pricing.md): Live credit packs, what each action costs, free credits and the free-tool limit. ## Free tools - [Free tools](https://border.bot/tools.md): Overview of the free classifier, calculator and origin finder, and how the free-run limit works. - [HS code classifier](https://border.bot/tools/hs-code-classifier.md): Classify a product to an HS/HTS/CN code for free; how classification works and what affects the result. - [Landed cost calculator](https://border.bot/tools/landed-cost-calculator.md): Estimate duties, taxes, fees and landed cost for free; what drives the numbers. - [Country of origin finder](https://border.bot/tools/country-of-origin-finder.md): Estimate a product’s country of origin for free; what counts as evidence and what origin means for customs. ## Developers & agents - [MCP server](https://border.bot/mcp.md): Remote MCP server URL, OAuth sign-in and setup steps for every supported client.
